I have secured what is (allegedly) the most important aspect of this trip. The old style Beijing mug to add to the collection.
Today I woke up, hit the gym, and went for a wander in the neighborhood. Found the Canadian Embassy (a little slice of home here!), and a big mall with many familiar and not so familiar stores. The area I'm staying in is filled with expats so there was even a bookstore carrying English books and a lot of the staff in stores speaks some English. Helps me not feel TOO out of place! The walk to the mall was about 2.5 kms each way and my lungs kind of hurt. The smog cleared up a bit more this afternoon and I can almost see the sun peeking through! .. Amazing.. I find it very disconcerting not to be able to see any skyline (or like, more than 200 meters out). I wish I knew what else was out there!!!
I'll likely update again later with a tour of my apartment, but for now here's some photos of things I observed on my walk (sorry if they're kind of small. Since I can't upload pics from my camera to the iPad, I'm just taking pictures with my phone):
Sanlutin Village (the mall)
